Matricaria recutita. The tiny daisy-like flowers are used for traditional apple-scented chamomile tea. The active compounds in chamomile have well healing properties for digestion and skin irritation. Interestingly, the essential oil derived from chamomile is known as “blue oil” and is in fact blue, even though no part of the plant is blue! The flowers are harvested in midsummer and if allowed to self-seed, the patch will perennialize.
