Moving Day

Time’s up. The closing on the sale of the city house was put off for as long as possible, but now we had to go. After twenty years of caring for the lovely home on Greenland Drive, I thought I'd be filled with sadness. But by the time the move finally happened, I was ready to hand the keys to a new owner who will start its next chapter.

The move was horrific in the pouring rain, everything stored in the barn. The loaded truck sunk deep into the mud where the old driveway was torn up to install the electric service. It took two full loads to move us and I could hardly believe that I owned that much stuff! Gardner and Sons movers were wonderful and I salute those strong young men who could lift and carry for ten full hours.

The universe seems to be pounding me with a lesson about posessions. We are also clearing out our family home that is filled with decades of accumulation. So here’s the message: Make a decision: are you really going to use that old thing? Stop! Don’t stick it away to decide later. Don’t hang on to that magazine. Let it go. Give it away if you can, but if not, THROW IT OUT NOW! Or you’ll be damning yourself or someone else to the exhusting job of sorting out your lifetime of indecision later. See, I heard you universe. You can stop now.
