Master Carpenter

I count myself very lucky to have an experienced and talented carpenter on the job. Watching home improvement TV, you’d think it’s a snap to renovate a house. Here’s the before shot of the starting mess; cutaway to a couple of in-progress tips featuring the doubtful homeowner wrestling with a router; and after one more Home Depot commercial, it’s all done! Here’s the lovely space and tearfully grateful homeowner ready to make dinner for the crew. About all that’s believable is the look of relief on everyone's face.

Sam and his assistant Eric work carefully and deliberately, making sure each task is completed properly. Sam brings time-tested carpentry techniques, handed down from father to son, that are not found in how-to books. Eric is always thinking of new ways to solve any problem, and the two spar with one another all day, enjoying the company of a  fellow craftsman.

Sam has made many suggestions for changes that have made the plan better, the structure more sound, and the process run smoother. We don’t always agree, but his ideas have always made me think and I’m grateful for his opinions. It’s a gift to have a team with vast skill just where you need it. Oh stop, I’m tearing up.
