Entry 3: JANUARY 2009

Evidence of life here before me.

Even though the house was thoroughly swept clean by the former owner’s daughter Marge and her sisters, there are reminders of the family everywhere. And it’s a reminder to me that one day, whatever marks I make may be erased by another’s hand. But for now I can enjoy finding the evidence of past lives and planning how I will live here.

I’ve always enjoyed reusing things creatively, and now there’s so much focus on going green, recycling more, discarding less. But the frosty windows show how much heat is lost in winter. I’ll want to fix that, but find a way to use the windows if I can.

I know old windows can be used in homemade cold frames. And I’ve seen the glass reused in newly-made cabinets to give them an authentic vintage look. I’m sure they'll find a place somewhere.

As for the hefty beds, my hope is to find someone who can use them, but that’s not as easy as you’d think I tried the refugee resettlement program, but their answering machine said they did not want anything at this time. My challenge will be to get them out of the way before construction begins.
