Studio Framing

It’s hard to say what’s my favorite part. There’s the loft that will be a cozy retreat, the kitchen with ample space for serious cooking, and a wonderful bathroom filled with light and air. But it’s the studio that will be my working sanctuary and where I’ll spend a lot of my time.

The plan was to build a new ceiling into the old porch, add windows, subtract door and voila, new studio. Then we discovered that the porch foundation was rotten and reluctantly admitted that the only sensible course was to rebuild the whole thing. Tackling this has somehow been more difficult, probably because it was not planned from the start, so it’s been the last major area to get started.

But finally, it’s well underway. The room sits proud of the house facing out to the barn and the fields beyond. The someday dream has a poteger garden just off a sheltered courtyard. We’re tantalizingly close to being fully closed in and with lows in the single digits, it can’t be soon enough. For now, warmer days make a muddy mess of the whole area so the plummeting temperatures offer a sorry benefit.
