Cookin’ with gas!

Growing up, my dad had a favorite phrase for when things were finally getting going: “Now we’re cookin' with gas!”

I never thought much about it. What else would we be cooking with? Wood? Coal? And since we had an electric stove it made even less sense. But whenever he said it, it meant things were looking up and we were in the home stretch. I get a happy feeling just remembering him saying it.

Well after weeks of installation, the heating system is finally cooking with gas. A single tank 100 gallon propane tank is now in place until I can figure out if I can afford to have a bigger one buried. I detest those lawn submarines and have not reconciled my citified sensibilities to the ugly, often rusty, tanks you see next to country homes.

But we have the system running for now. The technician checked the fittings and after much consternation when trace levels of gas could be found, replaced the regulator. And all is well. The system is ready but since the weather has been unseasonably warm, we’ll need to wait until fall to check it out. Then we’ll be cookin’ with gas.
